Roosevelts New “Voices”

This year Roosevelt students can look forward to hearing the voices of seniors Alex Kunz and Noah Brown on the announcements everyday.  During the week of August 18, three teams competed for this coveted honor by delivering the announcements in their own unique style.  The two other teams included senior partners Dominic Hustrulid-Ciofalo and Lance Johnson, and junior Brandon Tople and partner senior Dylan Gulbrandson.  A vote by the student body was taken on August 21, with Kunz and Brown receiving the most votes.

Kunz and Brown are both in choir and have been in many plays throughout the past three years.  Brown attributes his sophomore Speech class and numerous play experiences for his ease in public speaking.  The pair won over the competition for their ability to work well together and entertaining ideas, such as the Word of the Day and Holiday of the Day.

When asked how they came up with the idea for the Holiday of the Day, Kunz responded that he and Brown found websites on the internet.

“I love wacky days!” said Kunz.  While often the days are real holidays, most are not and are the product of their imagination.

Working together is nothing new for these two.  Both were involved in creating and acting in a skit for high school teachers across the district the week before school began this year.  Kunz and Brown, in addition to two students each from Washington and Lincoln, met three times throughout the summer to produce some pre-service entertainment for an audience of over 100 teachers.

“Most of us students would agree that seeing teachers outside of school when you don’t have to would not be something they want to do,” said Kunz, “but I guess this time it was fun.”

“Now we have friends from other schools that are involved in the same stuff that we are,” Brown said.

Being involved and having fun doing it is the moral to this story.  More is sure to come from these two as they continue to perfect their “gift of gab” over the announcements and across the stage.
