“We are hoping that the fall activities are helping the freshmen feel welcome at RHS.  We want them to know they rock!” said Mrs. Patti Ward-Maguire, one of the Link Crew coordinators at RHS. “This is a time to explore everything RHS has to offer.”

Studies have shown that freshmen who get involved in their school and feel welcomed are most likely to finish. This year is the first year the Fall Front Load has occurred at RHS. Activities are held during the student’s lunch/study and have included Freshmen Freeze Out, where freshmen enjoyed ice cream bars, and Freshmen Fun Friday, during which students played games and had treats on the football field. On September 3, freshmen will enjoy a guest speaker., while September 10 is reserved for Challenge Day.

“This year is a trial year to see if it has any impact on the freshmen class in a couple years,” said Mr. Terry Grove, a Link Crew coordinator. His hope is for freshmen to get involved and become those at the school who “make things happen.”

According to freshmen Alexis Rupp, these activities have been a great help in her adjustment to high school.   “Everyone is nervous because it’s the first year of high school.,” said Rupp.  “Link Crew shows that it [high school] is not all work, that there is some fun.”
